Apple Event

The Run Down!

In case you didn't hear (I'd be surprised if you didn't), Apple held a release event this October and announced a bunch of new features. Continue reading for a brief run-down of the announcements.

iPod

The iPod was first released in 2001. Now, it is the 1st most popular music player. Out of all the portable music players sold, 78% of those were iPods and only 22% where other music players. Since 2001, over 300 million have been sold, 45 million of those where sold from July 2010 to June 2011. They announced updates on both the iPod Nano and the iPod Touch. Read about both here.

iTunes

Released in 2003, iTunes now has over 20 million songs for sale, and since the release 16 billion songs have been downloaded. iTunes is now rated the #1 music store. Read about the iTunes new release, the iTunes Match here.

iPhone

iPhone is now rated the #1 smartphone in the world, and the #1 in customer satisfaction. JD Powers rated the iPhone the #1 Smartphone for 6 consecutive times.

Many people were upset that instead of releasing an iPhone 5, Apple released the iPhone 4S. But I say to give it a chance. There are a lot of updates to the iPhone that make it worthwhile. Read about it here.

iOS 5

One of the biggest releases at the conference is iOS 5. Already, 18 billion apps have been downloaded from the App store in a little over 3 years. With that, 1 billion apps are being downloaded per month. Take time to let that last sentence sink in.

Apple updated 11 features for iOS 5. These include Notifications, iMessage, Reminders, Twitter integration, Newsstand, Camera/Photos, Game Center, Safari, Mail, and of course PC Free. Read all about these new features here.

New Apps

Along with these new features, Apple released 3 new built in apps. The new apps are Cards, Find My Friends, and iTunes Match. Read about all 3 of them here.

iCloud

Apple also released iCloud. iCloud has 3 main areas that it affects; Music and iTunes, Photostream, and Documents. Get the latest on iCloud here.

Siri

The second biggest update is Siri. I can't even begin to describe it. Read and watch all about it here.
