News Friday: An overview of the Apple Event



Welcome to our first News Friday! Today I will be going over what was said in the Apple event that was held on October 20 in general. I am extremely excited to share with you the new/updated products that Apple debuted!! They are amazing and I can't wait to get my hands on them!! At the same time, I will be going into greater detail about the products in the very near future, such as Tech Tuesday or possibly sooner, so keep your eyes out for those!

The new/updated products that were revealed at the October 20th Apple Event were iLife, Facetime, and Mac OS X Lion.


iLife '11

The new iLife has the same apps but with new features. It is free with every new mac or available for $49 to upgrade. iPhoto '11, iMovie '11, and GarageBand '11 were reviewed. Here is a list of what is new or updated with each.

iPhoto '11 (to be reviewed in-depth on Tech Tuesday, the 26th)
 - New full screen mode, or as Steve Jobs says, you "can live full screen with iPhoto."
 - Facebook enhancements, such as who is commenting on your photos and posting directly from iPhoto
 - Emailing photos has been made easier and you don't have to leave iPhoto
 - New slide-shows are easier to create with different themes, either instantly or create one from scratch
 - Big leap in books such as better quality and they are easier to make
 - Letter press cards

iMovie '11 (to be reviewed in-depth on Tech Tuesday, the 26th)
 - All new audio editing has been made easier
 - One step effects for audio and video
 - People finder to find people in your videos
 - News and sports themes
 - Movie trailers, so you can create your own movie trailers!

GarageBand '11 (to be reviewed in-depth on Tech Tuesday, the 26th)
 - Flex time
 - Groove matching is a one click way to match all the grooves or as Xander Soren, product manager for Apple, says "like an automatic spell checker for bad rhythm."
 - More guitar amps and effects
 - New piano and guitar lessons
 - "How Did I Play?" a new feature that you will have to read about on Tech Tuesday!

  
Facetime!!!

 Now you may be wondering what could be new with facetime. First things first, it is now added to Mac!! And it can be used fullscreen! Apple released the Beta the day of the Event, Oct 20. I will keep you up to date with when it is going to be released!
  

Mac OS X Lion

Apple plans on releasing the new Mac OS X sometime in Summer of 2011. Here are some of the features to look forward to!
 - Multi-touch gestures on the track pad and mouse, just like an iPad
 - App store for the Mac
      * Open in 90 days from Oct 20  
      * Best place to discover apps
      * Free and paid apps
      * Automatic installation
      * Automatic app updates 
      * Apps lisenced for use on all of your personal Macs
